When the car engine is switched off, the battery is the one which will supply power to the headlamp. Thus, it will be discharged so next time you start the car, it would be difficult.

The car normally uses the alternator for the electricity to make the spark plugs spark and ignite the gasoline. But the alternator doesn’t work if the engine isn’t running, so to start the car it must draw electricity from the battery. If the battery is weakened it may not have enough electric potential (emf) to make the spark jump the gap in the spark plug.

The car’s battery provides electricity for more than just the headlights. It is needed to get the spark to happen in the spark plugs to fire the engine so it will start.
