Yes they do background checks and fingerprinting. Since this is your sisters 3rd DUI I doubt she’ll be able to get a job as a teacher. A friend of mine had a DUI and didn’t tell her school. Her DUI came up on the background check and she had to write an essay about what had happened, but was able to get the job. It depends a lot what school district you are in. They most certainly do background checks on Elementary School teachers where I am (Vancouver Canada) but I think that they are looking more for sexual deviancy or violent behavior. I can’t say for sure if a DUI would constitute a grounds for non-hiring but to my knowledge most teachers drink.
