Can someone attend a school when they’re zoned for another?

My Best friend just moved but wants to attend my school (her old school) still. We’re about to start high school gr.10 and we dont want to seperate. Her parents will let her as long as the school accepts her. She will have her own transportation to and from. I dont see a problem. Do you?

Depends on how the school system is set up. If the system is locked around certain boundaries, she’s going to have trouble staying. Sometimes also it depends on how full the school is. Don’t count on it being possible until her parents check these things out.

Not to put a damper on things, but YES it does matter. If she uses an address where she really doesn’t live (and the people at that address are not her legal guardians) her parents can be in lots of trouble. The school district can actually expell her out of the school PLUS make her parents pay for the time she was there. Tell her to have her parents call the school, explain the situation and see if they have a tuition program for students that do not live in their district but would like to attend. They may make some arrangements for her so she can finish out her last 3 years in their district. Good luck to both of you!

Depending on the school system and the scchool funding it may be possible. This could go either way. If the schools are in different systems (such as in different counties) it may not be allowed because the each school system is budgeted for the number of students living in the service area.

As long as she has transportation to and from school the school will accept her. The only reason a school wouldn’t accept her is if she didn’t have transportation and the school bus route is only zoned for that specific school.

Don’t see a problem at all. =)

AS long as the school that she is going to attend is a school of choice. Then it doesn’t matter WHAT zone that you live in.

yes,

but she will have to pay the tuition.

at our school,

it’s public,

you can live in our zone and go for free

(with the exception of parents paying taxes…)

but if you are not,

then you have to pay the $5000 a year tuition.

i’m not joking.

that’s how much it is.
