Help….please stay away from videos. Why does everyone feel the need to plop young kids like that in front of a TV?!?!?!?!

I’ve discovered a great book series at my Christian bookstore, it’s called Instant Bible Lessons for Toddlers (Rainbow Publishers). They also have one for Pre-schoolers, Kindergarteners all the way to 4th grade, I believe. It’s a set of 4 books, that gives you the story, art’s and craft ideas, songs and fingerplays to teach them, games to play. They are wonderful. I’m using them to supplement my Pre-school curriculum for my 1 and 2 year olds.

The internet is also a great resource, just type in the search engine what you’re looking for.

Both books and videos are sedentary, but preschoolers aren’t. You’ll need some active parts, too. There’s a style of teaching for them called “Holy Play,” but if you’re not prepared to get that training, you can at least have them sing songs with motions and cut or color or both to make something tangible to take home. They need a prop to help them tell their parents what they learned.

Read a story from the bible (kids edition)

Then talk through it

WAS IT SAD? WHY

WAS IT GOOD? WHY?

the answers might be silly but it’ll start discussion

talk about the characters

if there is a moral talk about it

do some crafts or games to motivate children

Eg doing escaping egypt with flat bread bring in some pita bread to show what it looks like

Eg act out a fave scene

they have most fun when its when they can be themselves and learn about god

THEN

ask each person about an ask god or thank you god

pray for them and thats the way to end it

Ahh veggie tales. I remember veggie tale day once a month in sunday school when i was little, lol. Just watch the movie, talk about the real bible story it was made after, and then do a craft. it’s what we did, and was always really fun. I always loved giving my parents the picture or craft or whatever I had made and telling them about the bible story.

Look for stories that aren’t about death, dying, etc, or that would totally go over their heads, like the whole book of Revelations.

You might consider some of the following stories:

Story of the Loaves and Fish

Love Your Neighbor

Noah and the Ark

Birth of Jesus

several of the Parables (once again, keep it on their level)

Just look for anything that can be simplified without being watered down. That’s the big thing: dont’ water it down!

I would say maybe Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches: One kid could have the bread, one kid could have the PB, and one kid could have the Jelly. Smores would be a good idea, but maybe instead of roasting the marshmallows you could get fluff and apply it for them. You also could hand out peanut butter crackers (the ritz crackers with peanut butter in the center) and give a story about how they will always stick together.

YES, GET SOME VIDEOS AT THE BIBLE BOOK STORE.

MAKE SURE YOU CHECK THEM OUT WITH THE TRUE STORIES IN THE KING JAMES BIBLE.

THE KIDS SEEM TO LEARN FASTER WITH THESE VIDEOS AND ENJOY WATCHING THEM AS WELL.

VEGGIE TALES IS THE ONE I LIKE. GOD BLESS YOU FOR TEACHING AND CARING. IT IS WONDERFUL FOR YOUTO GIVE A GOOD FOUNDATION TO THESE CHILDREN. THEY WILL NEVER FORGET YOU WHEN THEY GROW UP. NOT ONLY THAT THEY WILL TEACH THIS TO THEIR CHILDREN.
