Do you think larger child care centers are about bring in the money or quality learning for the child.?

I listened as a director and the owner discussed room for enrolling a child. “Do we have room for another child in that age group.” The director replied “We will made room.” That means some child may get move before they are ready. The teacher might have even more of a challenge because the room is at the limit.

If you ask me they are all about money small or large, since when does it cost $120 a week to watch an infant,all they do is lay there, sleep, eat and s**t. I know people who don’t work because they can’t pay those outrageous prices, you might has well enroll your child and for payment take off one of your legs and place it on the desk because that’s what they are asking for.

That could be taken either way. Maybe she meant if a child needs or wants to go to that preschool or day care that they would take another child. I know some preschools usually take less than the max allowed by law. So maybe they usually only have 10 kids but by law can take 15.

I do understand what your saying, though. I would not take only this comment into consideration, though. Look closely at all the other things. Call the Partnership for Children or Children’s Resource Center in your County & they can give more info on this ChildCare center. they give referalls and have info such as the rating on the centers, qualifications of the workers and much more!

I believe child care centers need to adhere to state guidelines as far as the number of children per staff, number of children in one room, etc. I would think that larger child care centers would watch their P’s and Q’s since they are more likely to end up as news items if they screw up. The sheer # of kids that attend increase the odds they will trip up. And of course the news media will eat it up. I wouldn’t trust these small day cares in someone’s home. You don’t know WHO that person is!

The large child care center that I take my kids to is a franchise. I feel it is very well run and because of the association with the franchise corporation they will watch their steps otherwise they will lose their franchise and probably face lawsuit by the corporation.

You can always vote with your wallet and take your child care business someplace else if you are unhappy with the center, or report them to the state.

It isn’t any better in college. I had a temporary job at an elite college and sat in on a meeting where the admissions reps discussed how many private pay (parents paying, no financial aid) kids they needed to have. No mention was made if the kids were actually academically qualified for the school.

Absolutely! I worked at a national chain of “child learning centers”. They were basically just over priced babysitting places, where the needs of the child were not as important as the all mighty dollar.

I switched to a private preschool where the needs of the child is the main priority, and the difference in the childrenis amazing! They are happier, more engaged in learning, and better behaved!

Don’t go to a large/chai center if you have any other options!

Having worked for both large and small child care centers I think the larger ones are about the money! I had a classroom at full capacity with virtually no decent toys and no help from the office with difficult kids. On the other hand, my smaller non-profit center had more high-quality toys and smaller sizes, which of course means more learning! 🙂

Every center is different. Some are only interested in the psofits and others truly are interested in quality care for the child. I have worked in both kinds of centers. I found the little church type of programs to be the ones interested in real care and some of the bigger places liek KinderCare were only interested in profits. Now mind you not all places are like this. Just the ones I worked in.
