Why is it that all of the World countries names – have an English intonation?

America

Brazil

Canada

France

Mexico

Kenya

Africa

It seems like they all have an English intonation…Why?

Before Japan open its gates to the world – They called their country NIPPON. Now it has a name with an English intonation Japan.

How did this happen to all of the world countries and Why?

Its because you are speaking English silly! In other languages they aren’t all spelled the same way and they certainly aren’t pronounced the same as in English.

The same countries, in French, for example…. very different:

L’Amérique

Le Brésil

Le Canada

La France

Le Mexique

Le Kenya

L’Afrique

Each language is this way. As well, I’d be surprised if you know how to say Japan in Japanese either.. it certainly doesn’t look the same. Japan in Japanese = 日本

All world countries don’t have an english intonation, they all have their own country names in their own native language. However, we have invented English names to call those countries by, instead of learning the native language pronunciations.

Out of the sevensample countries named by you four used to be colonised by the British.

Obviously it is their influence .not only in the naming but also their culture etc.Being an

Indian I can for myself assert the British have played a big part in my life.Of course I hasten

to add that while I have retained my Indian identity, taste, culture, tradition et al,I must

confess the British influence has given me a broader perspective and outlook on life, made

me more progressive in my approach to various things and aspects in life.I could wax eloquent but it also taught me not to be a stuffed shirt and snobbish in my attitude. But above all I am proud of my fairly good command over the language which, incidentally,

helped me put a British snob in his place.

Because you’re saying them in English. In their native languages they sound quite different. France, phonetically is fron–say. Mexico is me-hee-ko.

sad to say, but our government has chosen these names to refer to each country…and they all have a wide variety of names they call us (and no, i don’t mean the four-lettered kind)
