Oh, they are two different fields. You are just going to learn two different knowhow. Mechanical engineering is about mechanics and physics. Software engineering is about making or creating softwares. Software engineering is computer science using a different name or title. It’s up to you, which is more interesting?

ME covers designing products to laboratory work on engineered materials. SE runs a different gamut from experimental software (artificial intelligence) to developing code for keeping track of factory workers. Point is you need to match your skills and talents along with the things you’re lousy at or hate with the kinds of work before you pick a degree plan. The knowledge acquired in either of the two fields is a function of you , which college to attend (some emphasize theoretical more than practical) and what you want for your future (you never stop learning).

This is completely dependent on what you prefer. Do you like working on cars, or love gears, and automation for example, or do you love computers and trying to figure out how your computer, mp3 player, or the microprocessor in your microwave oven works? Are you more interested in the mechanics inside your printer, or the software/firmware programmed into the device?

This is a choice that you’ll have to decide for yourself.
