Gymnazium- 4 years, college preparatory

Stredni Odborna Skola- 4 years, prepares for a specific college major (Architecture, Engineering, Medicine) Most graduates are also capable of working in the field, in less qualified positions.

Lyceum- 4 years, offers full nursing qualification

Uciliste-2 or 3 years, Prepares for a specific job (usually manual, such as cook, waiter, plumber)

Konzervator- Focuses on a specific art (ballet, drama, cameraman). Graduates can either start performing (or filming), or go on to to college.

In the States, I suppose the purpose of high school

*Prepare for higher education

*Prepare students for real life tasks, therefore high school graduates should be literate, be able to calculate a 15% tip, etc

*Supervise children. I disagree with this function, yet it is existent. It’s free daycare, keeping teens (relatively) safe, and protecting others from them.
