Academic and applied are taught for different kinds of people. Academic requires you to use more creative and innovative ways to work while applied is more straight forward and hands on. But the most important thing is your post secondary goal.

If you really want to go to university i’d stick to academic, it has better chances of you going there.

While if college is what you have in mind, applied courses will help.

That’s about it hope it helps =D

“Academic” is the regular course, and what you should take in every subject. “Applied” is for students who aren’t planning on going to college and might have trouble keeping up in the regular class, but is a step above the remedial (essential) course. If you want to get into college, don’t take applied in any subject. Applied is basically taking the stuff you learn and applying it to real life situations. For example, here is the course description for applied math at my school. “This course places an emphasis on problem solving techniques and practical real life math applications and is designed to help students strengthen their basic math skills. It does not prepare students for a college level math course.” So take academic in every area possible if you want to go to college.
