I am a teacher, and what you are referring to is child psychology. Team work works from social pressure. “Good kids” usually pressure the “bad kids” to behave (at least that is how it is supposed to work). The bad kids feel out numbered and straighten out their behavior (even just for the day). Believe me, teachers are THRILLED with the kids who pay attention, help out, and are team players. But, in life unfortunately, the squeaky wheel gets the attention. Kids that act out usually don’t care what kind of attention they get….positive or negative. They just are crying out for attention. So, when they do something good, it just makes sense to praise them with positive attention. Again, psychology. We hope that once the kids receive positive attention, they will continue the good behavior in order to receive that kind of attention, rather than negative. The best thing you can do, it tell your teacher how you feel. I’m sure he/she will do his/her best to praise you too.

That is setting an awful precedent. There should be a reward and punishment system that looks at each event individually and fairly. Although if there is a noticed trend that certain students are consistently acting out, they should be punished more than someone who isn’t. It is the same except flipped for the other view, if certain students are consistently good, they should get rewards just as readily as they would get punishment for wrong-doing.

Im with you. I think it’s really unfair that everyone gets punished when one person does something wrong. Yeah, the teachers are always ecstatic when a student who’s usually naughty does something right for once.
