small school – small class – individual attention – better relationship with faculty – a higher opportunity to student ratio (see Roger Barker, Big School, Small School) – faculty culture of teaching. More expensive because all of these things cost.
big school – the opposite on pretty much all accounts.
You can get a small school experience at a big school, but it takes social capital, skill, drive . . . and you can be anonymous at a small school, but it is hard.
The significant difference is the small class size and the out of class experience.

Big lecture halls, small intimate classes. You get a lot more one on one time with your teachers with small colleges. However, there’s a lot more big colleges have to offer, plus there’s a lot more groups/ things to do. I went to a big college, and I think that was the right thing for me. You meet a lot of new people, and it’s a great experience! Plus, for lecture hall classes, if you want to know your prof, just go to their office hours.
