Is “perfect pitch” and “tone deafness” hereditary?

Yes, they are inherited to an extent. Most of the traits that you get will come from your immediate ancestors, mom and dad (other thinks, such as baldness in men, comes from your mother’s father). So, assuming that your 2 relatives that you mention are not mom or dad, then your chances were severely reduced. Then, take into account that your mom or dad married outside of the family (I hope), your chances were reduced by an even greater measure. If you see this issue as a bell curve, the extreme ends are deaf and perfect, with a majority of people falling into the normal category due to the above mentioned reasons.
