There are 50 white five-pointed stars on the US flag. They are arranged in nine rows alternating between six and five in each row on the blue field in the canton. They represent the 50 states and the 13 rows of red and white stripes represent the original colonies. Just a week ago it broke the record for the longest use of any flag in American history.

Is that good enough?

…considering I’m Australian

Hi Ecter! I’m really not sure that I know the correct answer, but I have a really good guess. I know that whenever there is a beautiful sunset with a lot of colors in the sky, that is because of pollution, believe it or not. I had a pilot friend explain how this works a few years ago, and I don’t remember exactly, but it has something to do with how polution in the air affects what we see. (It’s kind of nice that something so awful can cause something so beautiful.) I am betting that the same or similar thing causes what we perceive as stars’ colors. Of course, I could be wrong, but wanted to put my 2-cents in. I’ll be curious if someone who actually knows what they are talking about answers your question. Edit: OK, so I’m wrong. So sue me! 🙂 I guess the heat aspect makes sense. Interesting question AND answer.
