How do you take good notes on a book?

I’m reading two books for summer and I need to be able to take fairly intensive notes on them. I really need to know how one accomplishes this. They are literature, not textbooks, so I don’t need anything like roman numerals. Last year I observed my fellow students writing character names and the like in their books. What I really need is how do to the following:

~Take notes on:

-Symbolism

-Characters and their motivations

-Key Events and Plot Points

-Anything else you think is useful.

Thank you for your help.

If you own the book, simply use a ‘yellow’ marker and draw lines through important points. On the inside cover, write down the pages you have marked. Later, you can go back and take notes on your markings. It’s also an easy way to find these points once your passed them in your reading.

Just take good notes on events that changes the plot of the story in a way.

you just have to get in the mood, if you can get there you can spot all the important symbolism and plot points like nothing, maybe include opinion too our teachers used to give us extra credit and later required us to do opinion
