What was the Greek myth about the man who led his wife out of the Underworld and couldn’t look back?

All I remember about the story was the man’s wife died and he went down into the Underworld to strike a deal with Hades. The deal was that if he could lead his wife up to the mortal world without looking back, she could stay. Unfortunately, he failed and she remained dead. I just need the title. Thank you!

She didn’t remain dead. She had to spend six months of the year in Hades. This myth is linked to why we have spring, because that is when she emerges from the Underworld for six months.

The man was Orpheus and his wife was Eurydice. you didn’t mention that the way he was able to get into the underworld was cos he was the best musician ever, and his music charmed Cerberus, the 3 headed dog that guarded the way, and so pleased Hade’s wife Persephone that she pleaded with Hades on his behalf . Titles?

Orpheus in the Underworld. Orpheus and Eurydice. Take your pick. Hope this helps.

Orpheus & Eurydice

The most famous story in which Orpheus figures is that of his wife Eurydice (also known as Agriope). While fleeing from Aristaeus (son of Apollo), Eurydice ran into a nest of snakes which bit her fatally on her legs. Distraught, Orpheus played such sad songs and sang so mournfully that all the nymphs and gods wept. On their advice, Orpheus travelled to the underworld and by his music softened the hearts of Hades and Persephone (he was the only person ever to do so), who agreed to allow Eurydice to return with him to earth on one condition: he should walk in front of her and not look back until he had reached the upper world. In his anxiety he broke his promise, and Eurydice vanished again from his sight.
