The very fact that you are asking this question shows that you are on the right track.
IN order to make studying easier you might consider the following
1. Find a comfortable quiet place at home, the library or somewhere else.
2. Do NOT listen to music and make sure that there is silence.
3. See if you can get copies of past exams.
4. Have all your materials handy, such as paper, pencil, textbook and class notes.
5. Sometimes it is better to study with a friend.
6. Study at a time when you are not tired or rushed.
7. Go over past tests and notes.
8.have a dictionary handy and look up every term that you need to define. You may also use the text index and glossary.
9.Take a break when needed but come back to your work after a few minutes.
10. Pay attention in class. There probably will be a review.
11. See if your teacher will give the class or you a list of he most important topics. Study them first.
12. There are certain test taking techniques that if used properly may substantially increase your grades. You may want to post another question about this.

Study if you need to… but dont bother if your going to end up doing the same thing either way, i’d be a waste of time and effort.

Get a topic and set your mind to it. Dont try to read everything it will eventualy bore you.
When you start getn tired or bored have a break, walk around do something interesting then get back to your studies..
