Saturday detention….hmmm….we never had that when I was in school. As a teacher I don’t have any experience with it personally. I think that it could be useful in that it doesn’t take away from valuable class time. The teachers, of course are compensated for being there..probably overtime, if they don’t have someone who does just that. Saturday would give the students a chance to catch up on school work, do assignments and it would give them time to think of the things they are missing by being there….tv, friends, computers, video games, sports (if they’re involved) and it’s embarrassing. All good incentives to not end up there again. Of course, I’m sure the detentions would be structured so the students are unable to abuse it. Saturday detention could be a good thing if it’s designed to improve grades and give students an opportunity to better themselves. I might cut down on the amount of students going to summer school or repeating grade levels or classes.

No. that is not doing anything but putting more strain on the parents to get them there and the teachers are stupid for giving up the weekend. If the school has that many in detention then something needs to change in the school system.

I personally agree with them, but think the parents should have a say in something like this.
