Why did it affect them? Because they were founded to get away from religious persecution in Europe. The fact that religion was one of the basic reasons they were even there is the main reason they were affected.

Now, then, if you ask HOW they were affected, or what were the effects on the colonies by religion…well, you can find lots of doctoral dissertations on the subject on-line. Just do a search.

If you are talking about like the thirteen colonies in the New World, its because some refugees,Huguenot’s, were looking for a place to escape religion. They wanted religious freedom. Others were trying to spread their religion
