vectors/cross product!?

I need help on two problems (the second problem is based on the first one, any help with either problem would greatly be appreciated Thanks!)

1. Find the area of the triangle with vertices P(1,1,0), Q(1,0,1) and R(0,1,1).

2. Find the volume of the parallelepiped with adjacent edges ray OP, ray OQ, and ray OR where P, Q, and R are the points given in number 1.

With the coordinates, you can find the lengths of the three sides. Then use the semi-perimeter formula to find the area.

For the second, find the normal from O to plane PQR (you should have examples in your book for normal to a plane — I hope). Being perpendicular, it serves as an altitude to the pyramid (not a parallelipiped). Plug into the volume equation, and you’re done.
