HeLp!!!!!get 12 points?

one more question…Alice bought 12 apples and oranges for $2.51. If an apple costs 25 cents and an orange costs 18 cents, how many of each did she buy?

Let x be the no. of apples and (12-x) be the number of oranges…The equation would be:

.25x + .18(12-x) = 2.51

.25x + 2.16 – .18x = 2.51

2.16 + .07x = 2.51

.07x = 2.51 – 2.16

.07x = .35

x = 5

Then there are 5 apples and 7 oranges..hope this helps..

she bought 5 apples, and 7 oranges. 5 x .25 = 1.25 and 7 x .18 = 1.26 just add 1.25 and 1.26 together and you get 2.51
