Simple Algebra Problem?

John received a 75 cent/hour raise for his part-time job. He can now earn his former weekly salary of $63 working 2 h less. How many hours a week did he work before he received his raise?

could anybody please help me set up an equation and explain how the equation is set up?

Simple. You have to turn your information into equations and solve them simultaneously.

Before pay rise xy = 6300 where x = hours worked and y pay in cents.

after pay rise (x – 2)(y + 75) = 6300

Do the rest if you can.

Megwill’s not right, cause the raise is 75 cents, not the amount he gets paid.

I know this isn’t helpful, but I think there’s something wrong with the question.
