If the ratio is 4 boys for every 5 girls, that also means that 4/9 of the classroom is boys and 5/9 is girls.

4/9 * 27 = 12 boys

5/9 * 27 = 15 girls

Set up your proportion and then cross multiply, then divide each side. Let b be for boys. Also ratios are also fractions.

4/5=27/B

4b= 27(5)

4b=135

b=33.75
