Procrastination problem…help please.?

I procrastinate all the time…even if it is a simple task that will only take a couple minutes. It’s worst when it comes to homework. I start school in a few days and I put off my summer assignments until late in the summer (I still have quite a bit to do).

I don’t want this year to be like the last several years…I think it’s getting worse. I often end up starting my homework between 10pm-midnight. I start week-long projects a day or two before they are due. Sometimes I have to finish up my homework in other classes before the class in which the homework is due.

Not only is rushing stressful, but I hate turning in projects that are rushed and knowing I could’ve done better. I suppose the reason I still procrastinate is because I still get good grades and nobody really yells at me for procrastinating.

I’ve tried making to-do lists, rewarding myself, and reminding myself how much better things will be if I don’t procrastinate.

What can I do?

1. First, if you can not handle the work, maybe you are taking on too many classes or class that are too hard. Make sure you are where you should be. Also, you can have some activities in/out of school, but make sure you still have time for school. You really need to stay focused while getting things done.

2. Find a place where you will not get distracted, whether it may be the library, your living room, or even your bedroom.

3. Keep a handy list of everything that you need to do and then prioritize them by when you need to have them done. Everything that needs to be done by the next day needs to be prioritized by either the level of difficulty (easiest to hardest, visa versa) or even how long it will take. Decide how you like to work.

4. Make a schedule like this:

– 4:00 – 4:30: Math Homework

– 4:30 – 5:00: English Outline

– 5:00 – 5:15: Relax

Make sure you always add in some downtime, but not too much. If you have a project, get a calendar and plan out how you will finish it. Maybe the first few days you will research and the next few you will gather the facts and finish it.

5. Reward yourself! Whenever you stick by your schedule and finish everything, make sure you leave an hour or two to just relax. Maybe keep track of how many times you stick to your schedule (if you stick to it 10 times, for example, then buy yourself a CD.) It takes a lot of determination and it’s very difficult to get the hours of work done, but you will be proud of yourself in the end. Good luck!

Procrastination is a problem that I also have to deal with. What helps me is breaking down big tasks into little tiny steps. Think to yourself, “I don’t have to finish the whole task now, but I could just do a little something to get started.” Make a to do list that breaks down your assignments into smaller tasks. Sometimes you’ll even find by starting something, you will get the momentum to keep working and actually finish it. Either way, baby steps are great. At least you can feel like you accomplished something. Make goals every day and try to take at least 3 steps each day to reach the goals. Good Luck!

I use to have the same problem, but what I did was make my self accountable by getting my parent involved and aware of all my assignments. Get a planner write everything down, Think about your future to motivate you to do better, set goals, try read this book called The 7 habits og highly effective teens (pay special attention to habit 3), just make an attempet to do the work, if you need anyone to talk to please email me

procrastination is an ongoing struggle. it requires a great deal of self control. my best advice to you would be to break eacha ssignment into chunks with a seperate deadline on each piece. another great way is to get a friend or parent involved so that they know what you need to get done, and when. this helps to motivate.

i do the same thing and i turn out fine, except tests..those i always study for in advance. but i kinda enjoy the adreneline rush. uh i would suggest removing all distractions like the tv and comp, ipod, etc. but if u do well i say go for it…i guess it wont matter until college really. 🙂
