Thesis question?

Hello,

Can anyone tell me what comes first — the general introduction, the thesis question, or the overall thesis?

Thanks!

Depends. The thesis doesn’t have to be at the beginning. It’s usually the second or last line of the first paragraph, though. Or in the last paragraph.

YOu might have a sentence of introduction, then the thesis…etc.

First the general introduction which should include the thesis question. The rest of the paper should prove the thesis.

In an introduction paragraph, the thesis statement should be your last sentence in the paragraph. The thesis tells what topic(s) are going to be talked about in the paper. So, really, the thesis kind of is your intro.

Your general introduction should include your question for continuity sake. However, state the question early and clearly. Treat it with respect so that your paper doesn’t read like an essay. Your title should also clearly give the reader direction.

General introduction; think of it as the “Bait and Hook”–the intro being the bait that lures them in, with the thesis being the hook that gets them snagged and interested.
