Commutative operations are operations that can be done regardless of the order of the operands.

For example, multiplication is commutative because 5 * 8 is the same as 8 * 5. Addition is also commutative because 5 + 8 is the same as 8 + 5.

Division is not commutative because 10 / 2 is not the same as 2 / 10. Subtraction is not commutative because 10 – 2 is different than 2 – 10.
