Two stages of help. Help yourself and try it with stage 1. Go on to stage 2 only if you need it.

Stage 1 help…

1. The line through (-4, -2) and (5,7) has a slope that you can find from the two points.

2. A perpendicular line will have a slope that is the negative reciprocal of the first.

3. That gives you a point (-2, 5), and a slope from step 2.

Try the above. If that doesn’t help, stage 2 below…

Stage 2 help

1. The slope (y1-y2)/(x1-x2) = (-2-7)/(-4-5) = -1/-1=1.

2. the negative reciprocal of 1 is -1; this will be the slope

3. You now have a point (-2,5) and the slope, -1.

Point Slope form = (y-y1)=m(x-x1). Plugging in from above:

(y-5)= (-1)(x-(-2))

y-5 = -x-2

y=-x+3
