You set this up as long division(like in the 4th grade).

.023 goes into 16.1. I can’t make the division lines.

You have to moce the decimal 3 places to the right in both numbers. That means you will have 23 goes into 16100.

23[16100, 23 goes into 161, 7 times

161

____

23 goes into 0, 0 times and again 23 goes into the next 0, 0 times

The final answer is 700

The key to dividing decimals is to remove them by multiplying the numerator and denominator by the same power of 10 so that the denominator ends up being a whole number..

You start out with:

16.1/.023

You want to end up with this:

? / 23

To get from .023 to 23, you need to move the decimal point 3 places to the right.

So, just do the same with the 16.1

So you end up with 16100.

So the problem now becomes

16100/23!

I hope this doesn’t confuse but here it is:

take two decimal place from both numbers ex.

16.1 = 161

0.023= 23

divide 161 by 23 but ( ignore the decimal points )

this will equal 7 now add two decimal spaces to the end 7_ _

this will give you 700. That’s your answer.

To check it multiply 700 by 0.23 to get 16.1.

Move the decimals over so all numbers are whole. In this case, 16100 divided by 23. Then divide like you normally would and you’ve got 700.
