quadratic equation/ completing the square question?

water from a fire hose is sprayed on a fire 15 m up thee side of a wall. the equation h= -.011x^2 + x + 1.6 models the height of the jet of water and the horizontal distance from the nozzle in metres. what is the farthest distance back from the building that a firefighter could stand and still reach the fire?

i first tried quadratic equation, like this:

0 = -.001x^2 + x + (16-15)

i got roots of 91.91 and -1

and then i tried completing the square, and got

h = -.001(x-500)^2 + 251

im thinking that the answer’s probably 91.19, but im not sure why. can anyone please explain? thanks
