2x + 5 > -1

take 5 to other side (sign changes)

2x > -1 – 5

2x > -6 therefore,

x > -3

How to solve it (sorry SR): an inequality works just like an equality, except it changes direction if you multiply by a negative number (and if you multiply by a variable, there are two cases, in case the variable is positive and in case it is negative).

In this case, solve for x in the normal way: subtract 5 from both sides, then divide both sides by 2 (note 2 is positive so the inequality sign is still >), this isolates x on the LHS. You work it out!
