I have to memmorize a poem for school, any help?
I have to memorize a Shel Silverstein poem for a public speaking class by Monday, and I barely have half of it memorized. Any suggestions for quick memorization?

when i had to memorize a peom for my english class, i read the first or second line until i got it right. i would cover the paper and recite it until it was easy for me to remember then i would go on to the next line. then i would start from the beginning just to make sure i was getting the hang of it. or you could always get a friend to help you! good luck!

It really depends on how long the poem is and how much time you have. For instance if you have more time, then I would suggest getting big pieces of paper and writing down the words, that way everytime to go to your kitchen or when you wake up in your bedroom, the words are there.
For a shorter time however, make index cards (perhaps 3″ by 5″) and have someone help you with the second half.

Asherz’ technique always worked well for me, too. Also like the suggestion of putting the poem to music. Find a melody that fits.

Break it down into smaller parts, reading it over and over to yourself. If you have an mp3 player that can record voice, use it, read to poem into the player in its entirety. Meaning, the whole thing, do it slowly the first time, so you get every word down right. listen to it religiously like you would your favorite song. play it over and over repeating it time and time again. By the time class comes around, it will be imbedded in your mind and you shouldnt forget it. I hope that works.

learn it line by line and each time start again
studying in the morning early helps too to remember better
(preferably a gooood revision on the same day of the speech)
basically you need to take the time you need in one block and repeat the poem out loud to yourself as many times as possibile,
repeat slowly and take in the words so you remember them
think of it as a story

well i can allways remember the lyrics to songs, so if youre like me, then change it into a song and keep singing it till you remember it!
