You can’t graph this directly at the moment because you have no idea what the function f(x) is. All you know is that the graph of g(x) is the graph of f(x) shifted down by one unit.

e.g. if f(x) = x^2, then g(x) = x^2 -1

if f(x) = x, then g(x) = x-1

if f(x) = sin(x), then g(x) = sin(x) – 1

See the pattern?

g(x)=f(x)-1 simply means that the g graph is the same as the f graph, just shifted down the y axis by 1. So if the f graph has the points (3,5), (7,2), then the g graph will have points (3,4), (7,1).
