5(x+4) -7

= 5x + 20 -7

= 5x + 13

9(6+y) = 3y

54 + 9y = 3y

= 54 + 9y – 3y

= 54 + 6y

5x + 20 – 7

5x +13 use distributive property, multiply 5 with x and 5 with 4. This is an expression

54+9y=3y Subtract 9y from both sides. then divide 54 and -6 with -6. this is an equation

54= – 6y

y= – 9

for the first one, you just have to multiply everything inside the parenthesis with the 5 since order of operations says you have to do that first in this case. Look PEMDAS up if you have any questions with order of operations. so you end up with

5x +20 -7 becuase 5*x = 5x and 5*4 is 20. you leave the -7 there

then you just subtract 7 from 20 andyou can’t do anything else to the x so that’s it! 5x+13!

next one coming up!

Simplify means to distribute as much as you can…

SO:

5( x +4) -7

5x+4-7

which is :

5x-3

9(6 +y) = 3y

This one needs to be solved…

54 + 9y = 3y

54 = -6y

7 = -9

HOPE IT HELPS!!! =]
