A graduated cylinder with 25 mL of water has an irregular shaped object added to it. The volume, in the graduated cylinder, with the object is now 42 mL. What is the volume of the object in cm cubed?

You have to find the difference. 42-25=17 mL. 1mL-1 cm cubed. =]

A mL is the same and equal to a cm cubed (or cubic cm).

If the irregular shaped object is solid (no openings for water to get inside it) and completely submerged, its volume is 42 minus 25, equals 17 mL, or 17 cm cubed.

You work it out this way:

42mL-25mL=17mL

1mL=1cm cubed

17mL=17cm cubed

So the answer is 17 cm cubed.
