ok start by multiplying the whole equation by x so you get: (-x^2+4)/(x^2-2x-8). now you pull a negitive one out of the top and simplify the bottom to get: -1(x^2-4)/(x-4)(x+2). Now separate the top into -(x+2)(x-2). Now you can simplify the whole equation by cancelling out the (x+2) in the top and bottom. The final answer is -(x-2)/(x-4). hope this helps
