If this is a research paper, I recommend visiting your college library (or even the local public library) and checking out the subscription databases, such as ProQuest and EbscoHost. Search for keywords (ie. political competition in North America) and you will find scholarly, full-text articles with ideas that you may quote in your paper.

While in the library, if you still need assistance, ask the REFERENCE LIBRARIAN on duty for help.

Remember to cite all your sources in the works cited page.

The easy choice would be on the economic scale. Look at and compare the availability of raw resources and also the free market attributes that have served North America. I am not sure if you need to stick to a specific time period but a comparison of the industrial revolution between Europe and North America would be a good slant. You could also look at the major influences of economists theories like Milton Friedman versus John Maynard Keynes. The difference in theories and influence on policies is remarkable.

Ha! I would look for the religious influence upon economic behavior in Europe and United States, respectively. For, the American vision of entrepreneurship, and its ensuing success, how largely to the Protestant ethic; whereas the centuries-old principles and influence of the Roman Catholic Church in Europe made Europeans civilization collectivists and favored the intervention of the government in private economy.

Great and enlightening subject!

Look for keywords and key-phrases such as:

“Protestantism and the Spirit of Capitalism”

“Max Weber”

“Keynesianism”

“John Maynard Keynes”

“Adam Smith”
