external because it’s between man vs man, somebody vs somebody else, it’s not inside just one character

It could be either.
Internal Conflict: Problem inside of the character. Is this person holding the gun because he is fighting within his mind on if he should shoot or not? Does he have previous issues with this person that he has been agonizing over?
External Conflict: Problem between a character and an outside force–this appears to be the obvious choice. The “man” and Rainsford are in conflict with each other….

Ah. I see you’re reading The Most Dangerous Game. I would call it external confict. Internal confict would be if he was struggleing in his mind, do I shoot him or not? External would be that he is having a conflict with Rainsford. And knowing the story, it’s a big conflict.

is this from that story about the guy being hunted in the jungle?? I think it is. Anyways, it is both. It is internal because of the morality issue of shooting someone. It is external because he is physically having a conflict by considering shooting Rainsford.
