Find an equation of the tangent line to the graph of f at the indicated point?

ANY HELP IS GREATLY APRECIATED THANKS

1) f(x)=x^2+1

(2,5)

2.) f(x)=x^2+2x+1

(-3,4)

3.) f(x) = x^3

(2,8)

4.) f(x) =squareroot x

(1,1)

5.) f(x)= x+ (1/x)

(1,2)

6.) f(x)=1/ x+1

(0,1)

ill only do the 1st one but explain how I got it 🙂

f(x)=x^2+1

derivative of F(x)=2x (by power rule)

derivative is the slope of the tangent line equation

y=mx+b derivative is your “m”

so then you plug in 2 which is your x value into derivative and get 2×2=4 so m=4

y=mx+b

y=4x+b

plug in x, y values given

5=4(2) +b

find b

b=-3

so equation of the tangent line is:

y=4x-3

yay!
