Well, 5 dozen cookies is 2.5 times the orginal recipe. So, 1 1/3 x 2 1/2=3 1/3 cups

You are making 2 1/2 times the recipe. It would require 3 and 1/3 cups. So you need to do this math:

1 1/3 x 2 1/2 = 4/3 x 5/2 = 20/6 = 3 2/6 = 3 1/3

3 1/3 cups of flour.

Set up a proportion:

24 (2 dozen)/ 60 (5 dozen) X 1 1/3 / x

then, multiply 1 1/3 X 60 and you get 240/3 which = 80

then, divide 80 by 24 and you get 3.33333333333 or 3 1/3

double it first

2 and 2/3 cups

divide the original in half

that is for 4 dozen

divide original amount in half

1 (cup) .33 ( that is 1/3 as a decimal)

1.33

divide in half

.665 or about .75 (3/4)

for one dozen

add 4 dozen and 1 dozen together

2 and 2/3 plus 3/4

2 and 8/12 (2/3) 9/12 (3/4)

2 and 17/12

3 and 5/12

5/12 is about half (6/12)

so about 3 and a 1/2 cups

hope this helps

one dozen cookies will take half (1/2) the ingredients;

5 dozen cookies will take five times that, or 5/2,

so multiply the amount shown for 2 dozen by 5/2.

Hmm . . . I think it’s 3 1/4 cups ๐Ÿ™‚ if you divide 1.3 by 2 you get 0.65 then times that by 5 and hey presto the answer is 3.25 therefore 3 1/4 cups ๐Ÿ™‚
