-Abigail Adams— she was a very revolutionary thinker in terms of the rights of women

-Eleanor Roosevelt— Her husband had Polio so she had to FDR’s legwork for him…. she is considered the first woman president

-Susan B. Anthony— Famous suffragette

-Sally Hemings– The slave, who Jefferson had an affair with and supposedly fathered at least some of her children

-Edith Wilson— Woodrow Wilson’s second wife, who helped him hide the extent of his disability after suffering a debilitating stroke from the public, The Cabinet, and even The Vice President.

-Eleanor of Aquitaine— wife of Henry II who was stolen from the King of France, had 4 children and adopted a 5th, was imprisoned for 10 years (allowed out on Easter and Christmas) by her husband for no reason other that he hated her.

Oh and a few more obvious choices:

Mother Teresa

Hillary Clinton

Queen Elizabeth

Nancy Reagan

Jackie Kennedy

Jane Austen

Any of the Bronte Sisters (Charlotte, Emily, or Anne)

EDIT: Janis Joplin

Try Frida Kahlo. She was a mexican painter who had a very extraordinary life. I can’t possibly tell you all about her, but one of the things that made her art so outstanding is that she did most of it laying in bed. She had been in a bus accident that left her disabled. She also married Diego Rivera, a famous muralist. She was also a widely recognized feminist icon. There is just so much to write about that it would be a very easy and enjoyable biography to write.

Salma Hayek starred in a movie about her in 2002 called Frida.

Some books you could try are:

The Diary of Frida Kahlo: A self portrait by Frida Kahlo

Frida: A Biography of Frida Kahlo by Hayden Herrera

Frida Kahlo: Life and Work by Helga Prignitz-Poda

Hope this helped!!

There are scores of talented, influential, or important women to choose from! Google you passion (literature, science, politics, or history) and it will keep you busy for hours. Flannery O’Connor, Kate Chopin, Carol Oates in lit alone.
