Can anyone explain to me what the mathematical term for a function is?
My math teacher gave me an assignment about functions. I don’t know what a function is and he didn’t explain it to me, he just told me to look it up in the book. I did, and I didn’t understand it. Too detailed. Can anyone explain it to me the basics of functions that’s easy to understand?

Ok a function is the result of the behavior of a variable or groups of variables in regards to each to each or to itself.
example f(x) = x + y
Good luck. 🙂

In arithmetic, a function maps (or assigns, or produces) an output fee for each enter fee. To be called a function, there would desire to be a *unique* output for each enter. If we place a vertical line on a graph and the vertical line intersects 0 or one element on the graph, the graph is of a function. If the vertical line intersects 2 or greater factors, then the graph is of a *relation*. So as an occasion, f(x) = x^2 varieties a parabola, which passes the vertical line attempt. The equation for a circle, x^2 + y^2 = a million, fails the vertical line attempt, so that could be a relation and not a function. In programming, a function is an remoted piece of code that gets various of enter values and produces an output fee. In programming, a function does *no longer* would desire to return a different fee for each enter. In the two arithmetic and programming, purposes can obtain distinctive values as inputs. In math, a function can return in basic terms one fee. In programming, a function can return a fee, an array, a matrix, a string, or the different complicated information shape.
