Well, to your second question, the first revolution was as important as the second because the first industrial revolution introduced the major shift in technological conditions. Things such as the rail road, canals, and roads were what start urbanizing and devoloping the country. The second industrial evolution was time for the demand of more steel to make more rail roads, concrete for roads, and steel for automobiles.

Well, there’s a city in England called York. NY was the new one. The British changed the name from New Amsterdam after they got it in a land deal from the Dutch, who traded it for some of the islands in the West Indies.

I don’t know what would have divided the Industrial Revolution into two different periods. What happened in 1850 is that railroads and telegraphs were developed. By 1870, though, most of the heaviest industry was steel production: Andrew Carnegie, taking advantage of the railroads and the telegraph, was able to surpass British production by that time. The other thing that happened, mostly, was that we had our civil war in the 1860’s, a war mostly of industrial production and utterly massive slaughter. When Europeans sent their military attaches over here as observers, our ferocity and efficiency scared the living wits out of them. Nobody made trouble for us since–at least up to 12/7/41.

New York was originally New Amsterdam when settled by the Dutch, but when the English influence overtook the City, its name was changed to New York, obviously being named for the Cathedral City in England (York).

Can’t help with the revolution Q, my history sucks.
