Not a stupid question. The answer is no, though. It’s the same if you lived in one state and tried to attend a public “brick & mortar” school in another state – it depends on taxes. However, if you’re military and your home state has a K12 VA, then you possibly could do it.

You *can* do K12 on your own as an independent homeschooler, but you have to purchase the curriculum yourself, not have it provided by the public virtual school. We’re starting our 5th year of K12 that way. It’s called “Consumer Direct” on their site.

That depends entirely on the school. If you are speaking of “k12.com”, it has to be available in your state and area. Not all areas of every state are covered – in our state, only 5 or 6 counties are included.

If it’s a different virtual academy (not k12.com), it depends on their funding. If it is a state-funded virtual academy, chances are you can’t, because your family isn’t paying property taxes in that state to support that school. If it is independent of the public schools, then you probably can.

So the answer is… it depends on the school.
