Each K12 VA/VSP differs a bit according to that state’s education laws and scope & sequence. Testing requirements will vary, portfolio submissions will to, and the progress and mastery will vary.

There are many K12 groups in Yahoo Groups. Most likely if you have a specific VA in mind, there is a group for it. There are larger K12 groups where both virtual public school users and independent HS’ers are members.

K12 Virtual Academies/Schools are public schools, so you are not technically homeschooling. You’re doing public school at home, with a parent as the primary teacher (except for high school), and with certified teacher oversight.

I took some on-line classes in high school from a ‘cyber highschool’ in Alberta where I lived.

It was basically like taking a correspondence course (very self directed) but with more teacher feedback….I liked it as a way to fit in extra classes on the cheap (hundred less than College/Uni correspondence courses) but I preferred the classroom setting….
