You should begin with the Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) website and learn the legal options for homeschooling in your state. This website also has information on how to get started in homeschooling; the link is below:

http://www.hslda.org/laws/default.asp

You can then do research on the different styles of homeschooling which include:

1) School-at-home

2) Charlotte Mason

3) Classical Education

4) Eclectic

5) Unschooling

Following is a link to a Washington homeschool website; it gives good definitions of the different homeschooling styles:

Before deciding on your homeschooling style/approach, I would suggest taking the time to find out your daughter’s learning style; a free learning style test is available on the following site:

I hope this information is helpful.

Start by going to www.hslda.org They will give you all the legal info you need to start! You also need to figure out how your going to do it. Do you want a classroom style where you teach or do you want to unschool where she learns and does when she is interested in the topic? Or a mix of both. We use ACE and we tried Sonlight and both are great curriculum’s. Those sites are www.schooloftomorrow.com and www.sonlight.com You also need to figure out how she learns best. Is she a writer, or hands on, or visual, or does she learn it best by hearing it? What is her style of learning? That will help you pick out the best program to teach. Sonlight you read a lot and they learn through historical fiction and a few text books. Hope this gives you a start!
