There are a couple of free places to try to locate money to attend college. They can either be located in your local community or on the web. I recommend utilizing more than one approach to locate scholarships, and I recommend applying to as many scholarships as you qualify no matter the amount because it can add up.

First, current high school seniors can locate a list of local scholarships at their high school guidance office. Sometimes they will list some of the state grant programs.

Second, fill out the FAFSA form. It is based on your income and your parents’ income along with savings. There is a form to list deductions, too. It will qualify you for the Pell Grant, student loans, and the work study program.

Third, the local public library has a book listing scholarships with some of them not located on the web.

Finally, join several free membership scholarship search websites. Most offer a detailed initial membership survey form. A good number are national scholarships though, but a few include local scholarships, too.

There’s definitely no ‘should’ about it. This is the point in your life when you have to start learning what it means to live outside of your parents’ house. I just graduated from college last May, and I paid for college myself with loans, grants, scholarships, etc. My parents would have helped if they could, but it just wasn’t an option. In a way it was good, because I took things (slightly) more seriously. I had two $10K loans (one freshman year and one sophomore year); then I became an RA for my last two years to help with room and board. This saved me about $16K. Of course, I’m now making $400 a month in loan payments, but it’s a part of life. I’ve got to pay my own bills. Here’s what I say — if you are able to help, then do just that. Don’t pay for the whole thing, even if you’re able. I have friends whose parents paid for everything and anything and they really have no concept of what it is to earn your money and budget and save and pay bills. It wil be better for your kid in the long run, trust me.

There are many scholarships given out by government and other organisations every year. You can try for some online government scholarships or grants. Fill up online forms and see if you are selected for the scholarship.

i would think that you would be eligible for financial aid if you’re parents have disabilities and can’t work. but you can try fastweb.com and see if they have something there. good luck to you
