What would be a good thing to go to school for that is short term and not so expensive?

I am trying so hard to get a grant to go to school, but i want something that will not take so long. I already have to school loans out there and i am sure i will not be able to apply for another, not like i would really want to. But i am also unemployed, my parents do not claim me, my fiance said he might. But since i have not been able to pay back if he claims me this year they might take our tax return. So i am wanting to be in school or get a grant to pay that off.. I dont know how to go about that.

Hiya Brandi. If you happen to be interested in Nursing, most community colleges offer a nursing certificate that’ll quickly help get you into a hospital or a private medical place. That way you can begin a decent paying career, then while you’re in whatever medical place they’ll be happy to pay for your tuition too for either a future Associates or Bachelors. Most of these places would love to sponsor you to become a nurse because the nursing industry is hurting so bad for them. Hope this helps.

Massage therapy or cosmetology may be a good fit for you. Or an associate’s degree in most anything (accounting, nursing, etc.)

As for the question of grants…you will need to fill out the FAFSA for ANY sort of financial aid including grants. You need to be accepted to a school before you can do this. How old are you? The FAFSA will require your parents’ income UNLESS you meet at least one of the following requirements:

*At least 24 years old

*Married (engaged does not count)

*Have dependents (like a child) whom you provide more than half of their support

*Veteran of the military

There are a few others that you can find on fafsa.ed.gov. Your fiance CANNOT claim you on his tax return because you are not legally married. FAFSA does not care whether your parents claim you as a dependent on their tax return or not. They have their own eligibility requirements and unless you meet at least one of them, you will need to include your parents’ income on the FAFSA.

Many colleges have portions of their webpages dedicated to scholarships and grants, with many of them being specific to certain things like your gender or major. Look into those, often times they are overlooked and dont get paid out because nobody applies for them.
