FAFSA is the starting point for all federal financial aid. This is loans, grants, and sometimes even scholarships require you to fill out a FAFSA to determine if you qualify for money to help pay for college or a trade school after high school. If you qualify for a Pell grant (which can be up to about $4000.00 a year you don’t pay back) it is well worth the extra time filling out the form.
If someone is telling you to fill it out, do it and do it quickly, applying for financial aid is a process that takes several weeks.
Good Luck.

FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. you fill that out when you go to college to see if you can qualify for federal aid to pay for college (only in US). It is a requirement for all colleges and some scholarships because shows how much you are expected to pay for college from your own pockets. You have to fill one out every year. It’s better to do it online. You are allowed to start filling out a new one on January 2 until May (I think).
Loans are like IOU’s from private lenders or from banks. I suggest if you decide to take out a loan, use it as a last resource because interest rates can be costly.
If you want more information, please attend your school’s financial aid meetings or talk to your college adviser or whomever you go to for college guidence.
