Most schools are going to require that you complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid – www.fafsa.ed.gov) to have an EFC (Expected Family Contribution) calculated. A school will use the EFC in conjunction with the COA (Cost of Attendance) to determine what types of awards you may be eligible for.

Many schools have institutional scholarships. You will have to check to see if you need to apply separately for them or not (at our school you do not – you are automatically considered for any and all aid we offer for which you may be eligible). Most institutional scholarships have probably been awarded as many schools spring financial aid application deadlines for the new school year (i.e. an April 15, 2007 deadline for the 0708 school year starting August 2007).

You could also apply for outside scholarships. There are many different sites, but here are a few of the most popular to get you started:

FastWEB

www.fastweb.com

College Board Homepage

www.collegeboard.org

Free Scholarship Search

www.freschinfo.com

Gates Millennium Scholars Program

www.gmsp.org

You should talk to a financial aid officer at your school for more information/guidance. Good luck!
