To convert a fraction to a decimal you divide the top number by the bottom number. So use your calculator or use your math skills to divide 21 by 8. It won’t be an even number because 2×8 is 16 and 3 x 8 is 24. Your answer will be between 2 and 3.
If this doesn’t work then make sure you are doing the right problem. Make sure you don’t need to convert 2 1/8 instead of 21/8.

Easiest way: Assuming that this is two and 1/8th, you know that 2 is the whole number. Now you just have to change the 1/8 to a decimal. Divide the top by the bottom (1 divided by 8). Put the answer behind the 2 and you are good to go.
An alternate and longer way:
If this is two and 1/8th, you need to change it to a fraction. How, multiply the denominator (8) times the whole number (which tells how many 8ths it is) then add to one. You should get 17/8. To change this to a decimal you divide the top by the bottom 17/8.
