im a junior at the university of michigan dearborn ive got like 60 credits and i want to transfer to the university of illinois-chicago next fall. i’m aware that to get the instate tuition you have to be a resident for a year, but i dont know how ill do when i return to school after a year of not attending. does anyone have any suggestions for this or a way of getting in state tuition somehow?

If it were possible to get around the in-state tuition rules, no college would have out of state tuition because everyone would get around the rules.

That said, there is such a thing as an out-of-state tuition waiver. It never hurts to ask the admissions office how you can get one at their school.

It is extremely hard to change residencies in Illinois. You have to live in Illinois for a year. You have to get a driver’s license, file state tax, live on your home, and that sort of thing. The hard part is you are required to earn half your living expenses and tuition.
